Spring Summer Sustainable Collection By Abhishek Dutta

The Spring Summer 2022 collection is unique in itself and is called ” A Slice of France ” …a sustainable collection inspired by the heritage colony of French in Bengal at the banks of Hoogly river “Chandannagar”.The collection is made from the rich heritage handwoven textile of Bengal but used in a more contemporary way. French motifs inspired from baroque to porcelain motifs forms the base of this collection.

The use of handwoven linen denim and paneling them in different color tones of polluting water.Since this project is also a part of the Heritage Hooghly hub and speaks about an important cause of the pollution of the sacred Ganges river. Finely spun silk, linen, and cotton twill are the main fabrics for the collection. Reworked leather has also been used in the collection in an interesting manner.

Asymmetrical hemlines, off-shoulder dresses, es, and trapeze cuts are significant in the collection. Structured jackets for both men and women in terms of bomber, bolero, and lapel jackets teamed with various high-waisted trousers skirts, etc. Digital prints from French motifs and oil spills prints give this collection an edge .contrast taping and use of marigold color add that quirk and boldness to it. The intricately hand-embroidered cutwork jacket talks about the local artisans and adds that exclusivity too.

This collection also launches an accessory line of bags made from these handwoven fabrics along with reworked leather in various shapes and sizes. Totes to slugs form an interesting array of collections.

This collection was shot exclusively at the Heritage Railway museum where steam engines dating back almost a century were showcased and speaks about the heritage and how the collection is a bridge between tradition and modernity.
